Alan Wake and the presence of light will be returning in this long-awaited sequel. In the first game, light was Alan Wake’s most powerful weapon in dispelling enemies who were consumed by darkness. One of the prominent gameplay mechanics that will be making a return in the sequel is the significance of light. The trailer did utilise a jump scare to terrify audiences of what to expect in the sequel, but we’re unclear if Remedy will be featuring this mechanic throughout the game. While we can safely assume that the developer will implement familiar gameplay mechanics like interaction, tension and being isolated, we can also expect to see the return of more familiar mechanics we have seen in Alan Wake. Remedy will be making their own stamp on the survival horror genre in Alan Wake 2. The developer has made it known that this will be their take on the genre that has been going through a resurgence largely due to games like Outlast, The Evil Within and the last two Resident Evil entries.
